Research shows that pets have a positive impact on those who struggle with mental illnesses, such as depression.
In a study published by BMC Psychiatry, the researchers studied 54 individuals that had an established, long-term diagnosis of mental illness. They found that out of that group, 25 people said that their pets were part of their “social network.” Of that group, 60% rated their pets at the same level as close, human family members or professionals such as social workers.
