Practice of Spanking Children in Decline
According to research published in Pediatrics the overall rate of spanking children in the United States has declined.
Using data spanning from 1988-2011, the researchers found that spanking in 1988 was at a rate of 46%. By 2011 that had been reduced to 21%. However, these reductions were found in more affluent homes. In poorer households, the rate also declined, from half of families using physical punishment in 1988, to 30% by 2011. The overall decline is seen as being positive by researchers.
